The Cisco WIP310 operates in the 2.4-GHz band and supports 802.11b/g and the latest VoIP Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The large, full-color high-resolution display features an intuitive user interface that enables users to easily and quickly configure the handset with network access using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).
WPS is a fast, highly secure way of connecting the Cisco WIP310 IP phone with any standards-based Wireless-G broadband router. Just press the WPS button and your connection will automatically be configured and secured with a custom service set identifier (SSID) using powerful Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption. Within seconds you have successfully set up a highly secure connection.
The Cisco WIP310 uses the same trusted and proven provisioning capabilities presently being used to deploy other popular Cisco voice products for small and medium-sized businesses on a massive scale. Customers purchasing VoIP service from a service provider and using the Cisco WIP310 can be quickly provisioned over a Wi-Fi connection, receiving their configuration profile securely right to the handset via a Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), HTTP, or HTTPS download.

I've been walking around with it all day in the house and backyard, and it hasn't dropped a connection yet. There is very little jitter or noise as long as you use the "tighter" codecs (G.729 or GSM). Provisioning was easy too; in fact I just loaded the configuration XML from a Linksys SPA962 and then changed a few settings via the web interface.Of course, there are a couple of issues Cisco needs to address still: - Menu and feature navigation is a bit clumsy in places - Phonebook downloading doesn't work - VM waiting indicator is broken - Options for configuring messaging appear to be missing - Settings menu is missing about 1/3 of the options it needs - Custom ringtones can be selected but there is no mechanism to get them on the phone - Documentation is COMPLETELY non-existent The plus side is that all these shortcomings are... My friend found the wifi scan interface, but when I try it, I can't find the way to scan the wifi AP. I manually enter the SSID took about a minute. Well... The SIP setup is hidden into the webpage/admin page. A lot of configure entries (3 pages, hundreds of items) - fortunately, I configured other VOIP phone/softphone before and we just setup the SIP server address and the phone register immediately. You can make call right after that. The setup process is for the VOIP network system integrator/adminstrator. Unfortunately, it's not working as often as it's working. It dropped calls and lost registration with Asterisk on a regular basis. The phone would need rebooted to regain registration. The Wifi signal on the device was always weak unless I was within 10 yards of an access point, despite other devices reporting strong signals in the same areas. The speaker did not work out of the box. Unfortunately, these problems seem to plague most Wifi SIP phones according to reviews I've read of other brands implementing the same concept, so I don't know whether to blame Cisco/Linksys or the technology.I returned the phone and ordered the SNOM M3 SIP-DECT package. Hopefully I'll see better results with that. |
